CHICAGO (April 27, 2009) — The San Jose Group’s public relations division (SJPR) has been awarded a Bronze Quill Award from the Chicago IABC for its Hispanic public relations work on behalf of client U.S. Cellular. The firm was recognized for its successful activation of a communications strategy targeting U.S. Cellular’s Hispanic customers during Hispanic Heritage Month.
“We knew it would be necessary to do something meaningful to break through the clutter of marketing programs during Hispanic Heritage Month,” said Agatha Kubalski, account director at SJPR. “Based on our understanding of the Hispanic cell phone user’s propensity towards mobile data applications, we were confident that this type of program would resonate.”
SJPR developed an interactive mobile campaign for U.S. Cellular to connect with its customers during Hispanic Heritage Month, a celebration of Hispanic culture and roots. U.S. Cellular customers were invited to download free Latin American flag wallpapers and Latin-themed ringtones during the month-long event. The initiative, supported solely by media relations, resulted in more than 6,000 downloads of the free content by customers.
“Within a very short timeframe, we were able to put together a program that was surgically targeted and cost efficient,” said Jennifer Woods, EVP at SJG. “We achieved a big impact by strategically using the resources we had, and made sure our results were measurable.”
The U.S. Cellular Hispanic Heritage Month downloads program was also recently recognized by the Publicity Club of Chicago‘s Golden Trumpet awards.
The Quill Awards honor the invaluable ways that communication–from strategy to action–strengthens the bottom line in any organization. The awards are hosted by the Chicago Chapter of the International Association of Business Communicators (IABC) and winners of Quill Awards represent innovative leading companies and organizations in the Chicago area.
