The San Jose Group’s Creative TV Spots Win International Gold

CHICAGO (May 11, 2008) — The San Jose Group (SJG) recently won two gold, international Aurora Awards with its Spanish-language television creative work for electric utility company ComEd and insurer American Family Insurance.

For ComEd, “Estilista,” a humorous, 30-second, educational piece, talks about the benefits of having compact fluorescent light bulbs (CFLs) at home. In a beauty salon, a hairstylist and her client gossip about how one of their boyfriends changed traditional bulbs for the more efficient CFLs and how he is experiencing all of the advantages of that change. With a play on words, it sounds as if the man has a new girlfriend.

“‘Estilista’ is one of the ways ComEd is sharing valuable information with the Hispanic community about environmentally friendly options that not only save energy but also help customers save money,” said Maria Jaime, senior account director, SJG.

American Family Insurance’s 30-second “Red Roof Phase II” celebrates the importance of family in the Hispanic culture through a low, in-the-action camera angle depicting scenes of a bicycle riding lesson, grandparents’ anniversary, quinceanera, new home, and baby’s first steps. Originally requested only for the Seattle market as another spot was reaching wear-out, SJG’s creative was so well received that the client decided to run it in Chicago, Denver, Las Vegas, Portland, Tucson and Yuma, as well.

“SJG is so proud to be recognized by the Aurora Awards for our creative approach in educating Hispanic consumers and equally so for bringing cultural relevancy to family protection,” Jaime added.
